Seachtain na Gaeilge is in full swing at St. Kilian’s Junior School. We welcomed a group of Irish set dancers to the school in Monday, they danced for the children and they taught a set dance, the Connemara, to second class.
Tuesday was Siopa Milseán day and the children used their “cúpla focail” to ask the siopadóir for their favourite treats.
We welcomed two traditional musicians to the school on Thursday, Mairéad a fiddler and Shauna who played whistles and bodhrán. The children sang traditional songs for the musicians and they enjoyed several polkas, hornpipes and reels that the ladies played for them.
Friday was Lá Glas and the children sang their Irish songs in the hall and each class paraded around the hall in their green clothes, they had great fun. Thank you to Ms. E Bradley for organising all the events for Seachtain na Gaeilge, it was a great week.
