Maths Week 14th to 18th October 2019
Maths week was a busy and exciting week at St. Kilian’s JNS.
The children were involved in estimation challenges each morning and the child with the nearest guess got a small prize. The children were hugely excited to see the large jar of sweets. They had to guess how many sweets were in the jar and they had three guesses during the week. Congratulations to Callum Burke in room 16, Ms.Hiley’s class, for correctly guessing that there were 147 sweets in the sweet jar.
The children took part in maths in the yard with chalk, board and card games, maths art and an exciting maths trail on Friday. The bake sale was a great success during our money day, and we would like to say a very special thank you to all the families who baked for us and sent in their euros. A huge thanks to the members of the Parent’s Association for helping us out on the day.
Maths Week was also EU week of code and second classes were all engaged in coding with Scratch during the week, and they will continue to develop their coding skills during the year. Our school coding team will be selected from second class in the near future.
Special thanks to the families who got involved in the maths eyes competition and who have already sent in wonderful photos which we will submit to the National Maths eyes competition.
We were delighted to welcome Minister Katherine Zappone, Minister for Children to our school during Maths Week. Her visit was featured on Maths Week Ireland.
