SCIENCE

Strand Materials: 1. Junior Infants made butter. They put milk into closed containers, they danced and shook the containers until the milk turned to butter.
2. Second Class work with sweets, this was a yummy challenge!

Strand: Energy and Forces:
Second Class made marble runs with a variety of recycled materials, they tested their constructions to see how fast the marbles went through. See our energy and forces work here
Strand: Environmental Awareness and Care:
Children have been busy all winter caring for and feeding our native birds.
We love to keep our school grounds neat and clean, we had fun during our litter picking day.

Space Week 2023
St. kilian’s Junior School took part in space week in October 2023. See second class making their rockets here
TECHNOLOGY
We use Technology every day
On Safer Internet Day on 7th February, we revised our four online safety rules. WebWise sent us bracelets so that we were reminded to talk to our parents at home about staying safe online. more details here

St Kilian’s Junior School uses Raz kids, a graded online reading scheme for every pupil. We have read thousands of online books since last September, both at school and at home.
ENGINEERING
Our visiting Engineer, Tom Murray, facilitates our Engineering week workshops for second class each year. This year he visited the school on 8th March and brought kits for all second class children to help them make circuits. He also judged our whole school engineering competition. We have an ongoing lego initiative in the school see our work below
We showcase our maths eyes work by presenting our posters to other classes. We show other children our coding work and buddy up with other children in the computer room to share our skills. We display our science work for our parents whenever possible.

MATHS
We work hard at Maths at St. Kilians, we love Maths!
We use our maths as part of our stem work, below we measure the depth of soil for planting and create piecharts and bar graphs to represent our data.
